adjust有“调整，调节”之意思。adjust to后面跟doing.adjust既可以做及物动词，也可以做不及物动词。adjust to中的adjust作不及物动词，意思为“适应”，后面加名词或动名词。
eg.It took a few seconds for her eyes to adjust to the darkness.过了几秒，他的眼睛适应了黑暗。
My parents had trouble adjusting to living in an apartment.我父母不适应公寓的生活。
